Detached Dinner

This piece depicts an intimate scene of a family eating dinner together. However, it has a twist. It is rather an imaginary scene of assembled images of individuals eating in different spaces. Hence, these individuals are in the same space, while also in different spaces. In my family, each individual lives/moves in its own time and space. That’s why despite living in the same house, we rarely find the time to gather together, even for a simple dinner. Such relationships between family members are complex to define, as a dichotomy coexists: while it is a bond biologically connected by blood ties, it can also be physically and emotionally detached at the same time. I believe that this phenomenon is not limited to my family—many modern families share a similar experience. In this piece, I have the intention to not only reveal my concern for my detached family through the portrayal of a dinner table, but also express my desire to restore this relationship.
